The birdbath
Is empty
Because I
Keep a cat.
You might say:
Better to bell the cat
Than to keep an empty
Birdbath.
But the cat is old
And gentle, and the bell
Might make him cunning
If it didn’t kill him.
The birds don’t mind:
They bathe in the stopped
Up gutter above my window
And wake me in the morning.
